Rabia Vaughns MMS, PA-C
Certified Physician Assistant, Functional Medicine Specialist, Integrative Practitioner, Lifestyle Wellness Consultant
My journey in medicine began with me as a patient. I struggled through most of my twenties with chronic digestive problems, brain fog, anxiety, muscle pain and fatigue.
Over and over again I left the doctors office with prescriptions but no real answers to explain why I felt so poorly. I wanted to help others (as well as myself) avoid the frustration experienced by many lying on conventional medicine for answers.
After graduating from my Physician Assistant training I began work only to find I left my training knowing very little about how to actually make people struggling with chronic illness well. If you had a urinary tract infection I could heal you in no time, but resolving your IBS or chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia… that was another story.
It wasn’t until I found an approach to treating chronic illness called functional medicine that I finally was able to produce real healing in myself and my patients. The approach is fundamentally different than conventional medicine in that it primarily wants to identify and address the reason why symptoms appear instead of only using a medication to mask the symptom. It was what I had been waiting for as a patient and practitioner.
Since beginning my career as a physician assistant I have had the opportunity to practice in a variety of settings, including family medicine, women’s health and various integrated medical offices.
I had the incredible opportunity to work with and learn from Dr. Taz Bhatia, MD at the nationally recognized Atlanta Center for Holistic and Integrative Medicine (now CentreSpring MD) for two years. This experience compounded my knowledge of integrative treatment options and gave me the confidence to utilize these modalities to heal my patients.
I work in a partnership with my patients, and together we focus is on developing a treatment plan that addresses them as a whole person—mind, body and spirit.
I am currently accepting new patients so if you are ready for a different, personalized approach to your health, please call 706-688-WELL (9355) to schedule an appointment.
I look forward to seeing you!
